ex.3 - F minor pentatonic scale + 9th and 13th 1:30 Now when we add 9th and 13th to F minor pentatonic scale we get dorian mode. However when jazz musicians play dorian, a lot of times we hear more chordal approach such as playing arpeggios of chord tones etc. In this case, I started out with Eb triad, repeating the similar rhythmic pattern with Bb triad. Then I continued on F minor 6 pentatonic phrase. Minor 6 pentatonic is formed with 1 2 b3 5 6, in my head it's more of Dm7b5 bluesy lick. After that I went on Cm lick twice, then Abmaj7, F minor 6 pentatonic etc. All of these approaches have a unique color to it, I recommend to work on each them to become able to feel the difference. We'll be able to intentionally add these colors on the improvisation in that way.
